if you attach the pack and kidney pad, this makes a great system to carry around all of your gear. the entire system with pack, frame, kidney pad, and shoulder straps only weighs about a pound. just a tip on straps- if you buy this frame it comes with shoulder straps. one is quick release one is not. the quick release is supposed to go to the left shoulder. buy the ALICE manual to find out proper cleaning, setup, and loading instructions.

with this frame, you have to buy the pack too. if you have the tropical ruck, you can't attach it. it has to be the medium ALICE pack. when loading the frame with the pack, you have to put all of the softer objects nearer to your back, and the harder and more rigid ones away from you.
